Egidio Scaioni (1894 to 1966) was born in Milan where, at his parents urging, he studied to be an accountant. Upon graduation in the early 1920s, he immediately moved to Paris and quickly became one of its most successful and influential fashion photographers and portraitists. While he is most closely associated with renowned designers Maggy Rouff and Lucien Lelong, he worked with almost all of the great couturiers and fashion magazines. He turned to color photography in the 1930s and remained active until the mid-1950s, when he founded the Varenne publishing house and devoted himself exclusively to publishing art books. The present photograph has all the hallmarks for which his mid-1920s work is famous: a rigorous modernist aesthetic; sensual elegance of line; finesse; and a cool appraisal of the haute monde and spirit of the times. Scaioni photographs outside of museum collections are rare. Unframed. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 6.5" x 9".
