The Little Foxes, perhaps Lilian Hellman’s most famous play, opened February 15, 1939, at the National Theater (now David T. Nederlander Theater) on W. 41st Street and  Broadway. The play closed February 3, 1940, after running for 410 performances, before its two-season tour of the United States. Considered a classic of 20th Century American drama, the play captures a bitter power struggle within a Southern, white, turn of the 20th century family with Tallulah Bankhead famously starring as Regina Hubbard Giddens, the cleverest and most unrelenting of three siblings maneuvering to control the family business.  Hellman also wrote the 1941 screenplay for the film adaptation, which was produced with many of the original cast while the touring show went on a three-month hiatus. One notable change in the film was the casting of Bette Davis as Regina, much to Bankhead’s vocal objection. Our unique cast memento, accompanied by an image of Bankhead and Patricia Collinge as Regina’s sister-in-law Birdie, is from the original stage production and carries 10 signatures including Bankhead, Collinge, Frank Conroy, Charles Dingle and Dan Duryea. There is no information on who drew the cartoon. The Little Foxes, whose title is from the King James version of the Song of Solomon was suggested by Dorothy Parker, who also collaborated on the screenplay.  Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: Frame, 13.25" x 25.5". Signature image, 8"x 12".
