The Singing Sands was found in manuscript form among author Elizabeth Mackintosh’s papers following her death in 1952, and was published posthumously in Britain that year and in America the following year. The present copy is a first American edition, first printing. Like many Scottish authors, Mackintosh (1896-1952) was fascinated by history. Writing as Josephine Tey, she published six mystery novels. The last of these published during her lifetime, and certainly her most famous work, is Daughter of Time. It is a reexamination of the evidence surrounding King Richard III's alleged murder of the Princes in the Tower of London. The Singing Sands, likewise, explores an unsolved historical mystery, that of the lost city of Wabar and the legend of the Iram of the Pillars referred to in the Quran. Condition: The book is in good condition with minor age staining to some of the pages. The original dust jacket is also in good condition with minor wear. Dimensions: 6"x 8.5".
