Our petite, beautifully crafted sterling silver ring, a replica of an authentic piece of Viking jewelry, was part of the Saga Collection produced by the distinguished Norwegian jewelry firm of David Andersen in the 1960. Founded in 1876, the eponymous firm of silver and goldsmiths is still family-owned and has employed leading Scandinavian designers throughout its history. The Saga Collection, however, was a departure inspired by a cache of exquisite and strikingly modern 4th century CE Viking artifacts uncovered in in a cache of grave goods in Norway during the 1950s. In 1960, the grandson of the founder and newly-named head of the firm, Ivar David-Anderson, launched a limited edition series called Saga inspired by rings, bracelets and pins unearthed at the burial site. Many of the Viking originals found in the cache may now be seen in the Oslo Museum of Cultural History and pieces of Andersen’s Saga jewelry, long out of production, are highly collectible.
