In 1943, Louis Kramer founded the respected costume jewelry house “Kramer of New York” – the  manufacturer of our sleek 1960s brooch – located on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, New York, NY.  Our website also features an earlier example of “Kramer of New York’s” work in our Jewelry Collection and the difference between the two is striking. For the earlier example – a set of earrings and matching brooch, Kramer started with Austrian or French paste crystals, which were undoubtedly warehoused in America prior to the start of World War II. His design was inspired by 1930s Golden Age Hollywood glamour jewelry. By the time Kramer designed elegant brooch featured here, the company  was an international trend setter fully in tune with modern Western art and 1960’s “space age” chic. Both Kramer examples exhibit fine craftsmanship and top-quality materials for which the firm was famous. But this sleek Modernist brooch is more original, youthful, and forward looking. “Kramer of New York,” also sold under the trademarks, “Kramer of NY City” and “Kramer”, ceased operations in 1980. They produced some of the world’s most admired costume jewelry during their 50-year history and they remain a well-respected name and avidly collected costume jewelry line today.  Condition: Excellent. Dimensions:  2" x 1.5".
