Turquoise, which is associated geologically with copper and copper mining, has been used as a gemstone by most of the great cultures of antiquity including ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus Valley, China and pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Our large sky-blue cabochon with its beautiful veining of matrix stone comes from the famed Kingman mine outside of Mineral Park, AZ in the Cerbat Mountains. The stone is set into a sterling silver bracelet made by a Navajo artisan probably in the late 1930s or 40s. The bracelet is signed by a pictograph of a rising sun, but there is no record of the mark in current research that identifies the name of the maker. Fine stones from Kingman of such saturated color and large size are rare and are highly prized by collectors.
