Our well-engineered, brushed and subtly shaded, stainless steel butane cigarette lighter in the form of a Mirage F1 fighter was manufactured in Japan (ca late1980-90s) and appears never to have been used. The French aeronautics company Dassault Aviation designed the single engine F1 jet during the 1960s as a light, multipurpose fighter. It entered service in the French Air Force in 1974. The versatile jet was eventually exported to numerous countries and saw action in armed conflicts around the world. Having been reassigned to aerial reconnaissance, the last of the French F1s was retired in 1974. Our example, with its true to life removable undercarriage, was perhaps intended for a series of tabletop lighters based on the Mirage families of aircraft. The auction records show one example of a lighter in the form of later model F15-Eagle obviously produced by the same, unidentified manufacturer. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 7.25 x 4.25 x 2".
