Victor (Vicky) Weisz drew this signed caricature of our 23rd President in the 1930s during the height of Franklin Roosevelt’s popularity. It captures his famous vigor, wit, strength and jauntiness with Art Deco flair and the elegance and economy of line that collectors look for in a good caricature. Weisz, who was born in Berlin but emigrated to London after the Nazi’s took over Germany, worked as a political cartoonist for such newspapers as the News Chronicle and The Daily Mirror. Though able to work for both liberal and conservative journals, personally he was strongly anti-fascist and pro-socialist. And, despite the gulf that separated the social background of the two men, Weisz’s affinity for Roosevelt as a personality and a politician is immediately clear. Condition: Excellent with minor smudge. Mounted on card board. Unframed. Dimensions: 10" x 11.5".
