Our green vinyl rubber sedan was manufactured by the Auburn Rubber Company of Auburn, IN and was probably produced in the late 1940’s to early 1950s. Auburn Rubber’s parent company, The Double Fabric Tire Company, was founded in 1913 to supply tires to the innovative and design-forward Auburn Automobile Company. Due to the Great Depression, Double Fabric began making variously-colored rubber toys including cars, animals and utility vehicles mostly of four to eight inches like our army green sedan. The toys were molded vinyl and simply constructed of only seven parts: the body, four hard rubber wheels and two axles. This simplicity enabled the company to continue production during World War II, unlike many toy-makers who ceased operation because of war time material rationing. Our example is stamped underneath and, despite being a molded piece, has the crisp detail, including embossed driver, for which the company was famous. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 6" Long x 2-1/2" wide x 2" tall.
