Stamped Beverly Hills Hotel on the reverse, our nickel “silver” platter was undoubtedly made by the firm of Gebruder Hepp of Birkenfeld, Germany, the leading manufacturer of table items for use in trains, on ships and in restaurants and upscale hotels for much of the 19th and 20th centuries. Brothers Otto and Karl Hepp invented their trademark alloy of nickel and chromium heavily electroplated with silver in 1871. The remarkably tough and handsome material, easy to produce and sturdy enough to withstand heavy use, was also called “hotel silver” because of its widespread association with the hospitality industry at the height of the luxury age in transportation and lodging. As with all Gebruder Hepp work for prestige clients such as the Beverly Hills Hotel, our platter is decorated by an escutcheon and is clearly marked on the back as a piece from a custom service made specifically for that legendary establishment. Condition: Expected wear over time. Dimensions: 10" x 14".
