Our hand-signed note dated May 18, 1967 and accompanying envelope from Charles M. Schultz (1922-2000) to “Miss” (sic) Morgan is from the estate of Montague Morgan, a producer for NBC television and ABC Films in New York City during the 1950s-1970s. Schultz is evidently responding to a request from Morgan for the original drawing of a Peanuts comic strip. It was the type of a request that Schultz received regularly and, often as not, granted. In this instance, the strip had already been given away. Schultz, charming and kind as he was known to be, softened the blow by drawing two impromptu cartoons; the one on the note is of Charlie Brown, his fallen kite and Snoopy on his doghouse and the one on the envelop is of Snoopy on his doghouse. The gesture and the artistry typify one of the most important and beloved figures in American popular culture. Condition: Clean, bright paper surface, strong signature in green ink, cartoons like new. Original horizontal fold to the note. Loosely affixed and matted. Dimensions: Notepaper unfolded 6.25" x 7". envelope 6.5" x 3.5". Mat, 10" x 15".
