This sizeable Art Deco pottery vase of European manufacture characterizes the shift from the 1920s Machine Age design vocabulary of intersecting geometric shapes, sharp edges, and metallic surfaces to the smoother aerodynamic futurism of the 1930s. The perfectly aligned concentric circle motifs reflected in the vase’s tiered circular foot are Deco, but here the effect is one of calm, classical proportions. With its warm, earth-tone glazes, it appears far more organic than what had come before. The vase was undoubtedly designed to hold flowers, but standing empty and alone, it becomes a beautifully crafted and memorable piece of sculpture. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 10" tall x 7" diameter.
