Because of their versatility, individual dress clips were enormously popular in the 1920s. Cartier introduced the first double clip brooch in 1927, featuring a pin-backed mount for two dress clips, so they could be worn together as one brooch or as two separate jewels. The Coro company was the first costume jewelry maker to offer a double clip brooch, announced as “An Exciting New Idea!” in 1935 ad in Vogue Magazine. Coro called their product “Duette”, a name that is often used to describe this type of jewelry. This rose & yellow-gold-plated, sterling silver, double dress-clip brooch with ruby-glass stones and diamanté accents pave (ca 1940s) is the epitome of the three- dimensional and slightly surreal jewelry fashions of the era.  Other important costume jewelers such as Trifari, Mazer Brothers, Marcel Boucher, and Pennino, created their own versions, each patenting slightly different mount mechanisms. Coro “Duettes”, however, were then and are today considered the ultimate expression of the style. This intricate and robust design is one of the most interesting that the company produced. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 2.5”x 1.25” when joined. Worn apart, 1.25”x 1.25”.
