This French jade-green five strand bracelet was part of a vogue for expensive glass costume jewelry in the 1950s. Coco Channel was largely responsible for popularizing imitation jewelry in the world of couture fashion. By the post-World War II period almost every important fashion designer took costume jewelry seriously, using it dramatically, and at times, whimsically, as an integral part of their collections. Swarovski set the standard for cut crystals, but venerable French firms like Salvadori and Maison Gripoix made the most highly prized bugle beads and poured glass stones. The overall geometry, jade green color and impressive Chinese-style clasp of this bracelet were evidently inspired by Cartier’s Art Deco creations of the 1920s and the buying public's love of genuine antique "Peking" glass. The rhodium-plated findings, hand knotting in matching colored silk and the superb quality glass make this fine example very comfortable to wear. Marked “France.” Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 7”x 1.5”
