Judging by their construction and origin, these two sets of handmade miniature andirons, one of cast iron, the other of a pewter-like metal, were made by the same hand in the 19th or early 20th century. Most likely doll house accessories, they possess an abundance of wit and character that qualifies them to be considered small Folk Art sculptures. Viewed together, it isn’t too much of an imaginative stretch to see them cast in the social values of their day as a husband and wife; he rather taller and rigid, she livelier and more rotund. Anthropomorphized or not, they are a pleasure to look at and to hold. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: Larger, 4' x 4" x 2", Smaller, 3" x 3" 1.5".
