This extremely rare signed and dedicated first edition of R.M.M. Carpenter’s My African Safari was privately published by the Roycrofters of Erie County, NY in 1937; it appeared in a very limited edition of approximately 25 copies Carpenter intended as gifts for friends. Carpenter was a noted DuPont executive, sportsman and owner of the Philadelphia Phillies. This personal account of his 1936 safari through Kenya has faux leather boards, bright gilt cover title and author, sewn-in silk bookmark and handmade pressed rice paper unopened along the top edges. It is illustrated with 10 black-and-white captioned photographs and a safari route map facing the frontispiece. Personal accounts of big game hunts from this period are scarce, this one particularly so because of its small print run and pedigree. Condition: very good with some rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine, small minor wear and an upper corner fold to the flyleaf. Dimensions: 5.25"x 7"
