One of scores of talented silversmiths at work in Mexico during the 1980s, Pat Areias was particularly admired for her unique melding of traditional Latin jewelry design with Scandinavian aesthetics of the great Danish silver designers such as Georg Jensen during the 1930s and 1940s. Our flattened oval sterling silver bangle with peridot cabochons was clearly influenced by traditional Celtic/Nordic culture. The bangle’s fluid lines and organic form are late mid-century modern. But the technique of hand hammering and the high collet setting of the jewels are distinctly medieval and reflect a renaissance of interest in that period by designers across the decorative arts. The effect is one of utter modernity combined with reverence for individual craftsmanship of the past. Condition: Excellent. Dimension: Size 7".
